Sterling Renaissance Festival

Leave all of the worries of 21st century life behind and step into Shakespeare’s time at the Sterling Renaissance Festival. The Festival’s 2009 season starts on July 4 and runs every Saturday and Sunday until August 16, and is open from 10am until 7pm. With over 100 stage and street performances, it will be like nothing you’ve seen in the past four hundred years.

The Sterling Renaissance Festival is an all-ages event located an hour south of Syracuse and about a three-hour drive from downtown Buffalo, at 15385 Farden Road. Once you arrive, join a cast of over 200 actors and stagehands in recreating an authentic Renaissance village.

There will be 12 stages with music, acting, and more. Hear traditional Irish, Celtic, and Scottish music and watch performances by the Festival’s own professional acting group, the Bless the Mark players. Other stage acts include comedians, puppeteers, and even a live jousting tournament. Between acts, the players mingle with visitors and stay in character for a uniquely interactive experience.

In addition to the live acts, the Sterling Renaissance Festival has you covered with period food and drinks. Advertised delicacies include pita pockets, turkey legs, portabella mushroom sandwiches, and more. For adult festivalgoers, the Bad Dog Tavern offers a selection of ales and pub fare like wings, beer-battered onion rings, and cheese fries. The food and drinks are not included in the admission price.

If you are more interested in crafts and shopping for souvenirs and merchandise, there will be artisan tables where you can watch craftspeople at work and buy their wares. The handcrafted goods that you can buy might include dolls, books, sculpted moccasins, coins, jewelry, and more. For 21st-century oriented shopping, there is also a gift shop with t-shirts, hats, mugs, and Renaissance Festival-branded items.

No matter what your interests or how old you, your family, or your friends are, you will definitely find something fun to do at the Sterling Renaissance Festival. Whether you wear your street clothes or go all out in a costume, you’re sure to have fun going back in time and experiencing another world.
