My Antonia At The Reg Lenna Civic Center |
| |
The Reg Lenna Civic Center, in collaboration with SUNY Fredonia's Daniel A.
Reed Library and Department Of Theater and Dance will present a free, public
performance of Willa Cather's "My Antonia" on Friday February 5 at 7:00 p.m.
In this staged-reading adaptation of the classic, the lives of several
immigrant families are chronicled as they move to Nebraska to begin anew.
The heart and soul of this work is Antonia Shimerda, who goes from young
girl to married mother through the course of the story.
Directed by SUNY Fredonia professor Ted Sharon and featuring several of his
students, "My Antonia" is part of The Big Read. The Big Read is a program
of the National Endowment for the Arts, designed to restore reading to the
center of American culture. The NEA presents The Big Read in partnership
with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with
Arts Midwest. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to
encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment.
Though a free event, tickets may be reserved by calling 716-484-7070.
This event is made possible by support from The Big Read, Chautauqua Region
Community Foundation, Arts Council For Chautauqua County, The New York State
Council On The Arts, Arts Midwest and The National Endowment For The Arts.
The Reg Lenna Civic Center is located at 116 East Third Street in Jamestown.
