Can’t get out of Bed?

Can’t get out of Bed?Lately, more and more people have been telling me that they’re having a huge amount of trouble getting out of bed in the morning. Regardless of how the story starts, it always ends the same. When the morning alarm goes off, they just can’t get up and get going. Some are just keep hitting the snooze button until they can take no more. Others are shutting the alarm off altogether and just dealing with the repercussions.

The problem being described is also known as sleep inertia or sleep drunkenness. And it affects more people than you would guess. If you are getting at least seven hours of sleep a night and you are still having trouble getting up in the morning, there is something wrong. This is where it gets a little complex.

There can be a wide variety of reasons why you’re having trouble getting out of bed in the morning. Some of the obvious things to look at are diet and making sure you’re getting regular, healthy meals, caffeine intake and that you’re not getting too much, and alcohol intake and that you’re not getting too much. In addition, if you smoke, you need to stop. It is possible that your oversleeping is being caused by your smoking habit.

Some more serious problems that can cause oversleeping include depression, sleep apnea, and stress to name but a few.

The place to start when trying to end your oversleeping is to start by trying to determine the cause of the problem. Really take an objective look at yourself and your health habits and see if there isn’t something that jumps out. If you eliminate all the likely causes of your oversleeping with no success, then it might be time to consult a physician.

This problem just doesn’t happen without a cause. If you find you’re having trouble getting out of bed in the morning, know that you are not alone and that this problem doesn’t last forever. With a little research and work, you’ll find the cause of your oversleeping and you’ll be back on a normal sleep schedule before you know it.
