The Acacia Strain - Continent

The Acacia Strain
Continent
Prosthetic Records

With Continent, the ‘often imitated but never duplicated’ Acacia Strain put on a true metal clinic, complete with swirling windmill guitars, soaring, yet punishing vocals and socially conscious lyrics.

The Acacia Strain utilizes a unique tripe guitar attack in order to achieve their brutal sound. This is a solid hardcore metal hybrid record that doesn’t lose its direction despite its quick play, but some songs tend to become muddled and run together. Unlike a lot of other modern metal records released today, Continent doesn’t slow toward the end, or end itself with a cute acoustic track. It stays ballsy from bell to bell, and that is a fair assumption of the record in one word, ballsy.

Through heavy down-tuned guitars, irregular breakdowns, and groove patterns, Continent is the type of metal record you want. It isn’t boring, it isn’t quiet and it doesn’t try and sell itself short and settle for melodic vocals here and there. Right from the star of Skynet, through Cthulhu, Balboa Towers, and throughout the end of the Behemoth, Continent bombards the listener with shredding vocals that shift between doom, death and noise metal, lined with seriously progressive powerful drum work.

Continent will kick your ass and the Acacia Strain won’t settle they have achieved that goal.

Continent is as exhilarating and thoroughly exhausting as any metal record you will hear this year. It’s heavy for heavy music’s sake, not heavy then melodic as just a ploy to sell records, and it is heavy enough to cause you to check your underwear after you listen to it. You could just mess yourself doing so.
