 Maybe it’s just me but it seems like all the designers have turned a corner and really ramped up their efforts. Or maybe it was the challenge itself which had the designers creating a look to fit into Diane Von Furstenberg’s new line.
The designers were able to choose their fabrics right from Furstenberg’s own fabrics storage room to create a look that would be sold exclusively to American Express card holders. Most of the designers really rose to the challenge, the exceptions being Joe and Stella.
Ultimately it was Stella’s night to go home, and honestly I’m not that shocked as to why. More than any other challenge so far, this one was obviously going to give her trouble because it was so far from her aesthetic and style. She gave it a good effort, but in the end her garment was poorly constructed and the cape she made looked very Batman/Dracula, not at all in keeping with the challenge.
Joe was the lucky designer of the night. His look was awful. The colors were bizarre, the design was off, and the construction was very poor. He came very close to going home. If Stella’s look was just a little better made, he probably would have gone home. I like Joe a lot so I’m really hoping that he learned from the challenge and steps it up. If not, I fear it won’t be long before he gets the goodbye kiss from Heidi.
The winner of the night and rightfully so was Leanne. Her look was stunning. The dress was eloquent and sophisticated and the jacket perfectly complemented the look. The look had everything, design, craftsmanship, great color choices. And although there were a lot of great looks from other designers, Leanne’s garments were way, way above what anyone else had done, really impressive.
Now half way through the season I’m starting to feel like I can see who will make it to the end. As things stand right now, I would guess that the final three will be Leanne, Korto and Kenley. The others are very good, but these three really seem to be pulling away from the pack as the three strongest designers and competitors. But there’s still a while to go and you never know what will happen. All we can do is tune in and see it unfold as it happens.
