Two Studies Aim At Triglycerides
(Chicago, IL) -- Danish researchers say there's a strong link between a high level of triglycerides and strokes. Copenhagen University Hospital studied 14-thousand people for 31 years and found a clear correlation between the blood fat and strokes caused by blood clots. They administered a test without having people fast first, unlike the standard test that calls for fasting for eight to 12 hours. They found that men aged 55 and over with high triglyceride levels have a 17-percent risk of a stroke in ten years, versus only three-percent for those with the lowest levels. Meanwhile, a U.S. study found that the percentage of adults with high triglyceride levels had doubled in the last 30 years. Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio said the spike was due to the rising number of obese adults in the U.S. Researchers say that statin drugs help people control their cholesterol but it doesn't help with other lipids.<
