Combination Therapies Appear To Give Longer Lives To Lung Cancer Sufferers
(Washington, DC) -- The combination of two targeted therapies and two chemotherapy drugs appear to give patients with advanced lung cancer longer lives. A team of researchers at the University of Texas say using Roche and Company's Avastin, ImClone's Erbitux, carboplatin and paclitaxel appeared to add an average of two months to the lives of patients. Patients involved in the trial had either stage 3 or 4 lung cancer. Dr. Edward Kim said his team would analyze tumors in patients to see if there are biomarkers for predicting who can fare the best on the combination therapy. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the world. One-hundred-14-thousand deaths yearly in the U.S. are blamed on the disease. |
