Medical Device Maker Halts Defibrillator Sales

Boston Scientific made the announcement Monday after discovering it had failed to properly notify the Food and Drug Administration about a pair of manufacturing changes related to the lifesaving devices. The company is also pulling millions of its defibrillators from hospital shelves nationwide while it works to resolve the problem with the FDA. Implantable heart defibrillators are surgically placed under the skin or chest muscle, and use electric shocks to correct a patient's irregular heartbeat.
