Non-Drinkers May Experience "Holiday Heart Syndrome"
(Undated) -- People who don't normally drink alcohol but end up doing so at a holiday gathering need to be aware of what doctors call "holiday heart syndrome." Cleveland Clinic emergency room physician Dr. Tom Tallman says alcohol consumption can cause an abnormally fast heart rhythm in a non-drinker. He says a person can feel like their heart is beating out of their chest. Tallman says if you rarely drink alcohol and get a rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath that don't subside in a few minutes, you should head to a hospital emergency room. |
